What can I say about my, or better, our food experiences? We are both Dutch, my husband and I, but eat most of the time eastern food, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Thai etc. so we really love it. We even often use chopsticks :-) When we went to China in 1993 we ate most of the time in stalls at markets, hotpot (if you do not know that, what I cannot imagine, it is a sort of Chinese fondue), noodles, shrimps or gamba's and, never tell anyone, frog legs. We had great ones in Hangzhou at an evening market(see photo below). In daytime it was a very busy street, but at night it became a night market.

Photo: there's no menu, just point at anything you fancy and a delicious dish will be made in minutes!

Of course we ate in the same way in Indonesia and Thailand. Our experience was and is, that it is better to eat in local restaurants/stalls where a lot of local people eat, than to go to Western (expensive) hotels and/or restaurants where you get the same food as at home but without them having the same ingredients as we have at home for our kind of meals. We seldom got ill when we were in South East Asia, contrary to so many other people who stayed and ate in very expensive hotels.

As to Vietnam, we love their cuisine. The lettuce with herbs and baked meat is superb (to our taste of course), the Pho (thick noodle soup), even as breakfast, is delicious and again the kind of hotpot they have here is very nice. Let's not forget the Vietnamese loempia's (springrolls) and as a drink, the bia hoi, the locally brewed beer. And of course all the fruits, but that is everywhere in the Far East. Vietnamese food is one of our favourite kinds of meals nowadays. The only thing we did not like was snake :-(

At the beach of Nha Trang a lady prepared us a wonderful dinner of gamba's with lemon, salt and pepper. One of the most delicious meals we've ever had.

In April/May we will go to Tibet, so if you like to see some pictures of that country, have a look from time to time at my homepage (after the end of May of course :-))).
