NAGASAKI HAS A SIMILAR DISH
|
![]() This is what we call "SARAUDON". ![]() Fried rice, which these young girls are eating, looks voluminous and tasty. (Our San Mee is on this side of the table !) ![]() Skyscrapers are in a good contrast to Food Center. |
A Japanese expatriate Mr. Kashiyama wrote in his mail" You can eat very tasty crispy noodle with seafood sauce, SAN MEE, at $3 in a food center on the seaside of Shenton Way. The stall is on the right side of the second echelon from right, beside a porridge house." I went there in the same day as I received the mail(^^). The foodcenter is between Raffles Quay Park of Shenton Way and Marina Bay. It's just beside the Hong Leong Building where Mitsui and many other Japanese companies have their offices and Lau Pa Sat (beautifully decorated food center). As I am working a bit away from here, this is the first time to come here.I was very glad when I easily found IT(^^)/. Many businessmen and office ladies are going to the FC in a big stream for lunch. The FC is divided in 7 echelons and each of them are very much crowded ! We sought, as Mr. Kashiyama explained, in the 2nd echelon, right side and it was there ! A signboard referring to "SAN MEE $3"is hanging above the stall NO. 23. They sell, however, also bigger size, $5. While we were waiting for San Mee, the young girls at the same table were eating fried rice from the same stall (photo), which looked delicious too. After a few minutes we got "San Mee". San Mee is quite similar to SARAUDON, a speciality of Nagasaki, Japan. Maybe people in Nagasaki learned San Mee from Chinese many years ago. On the crispy noodle, egg based sauce with seafood such as shrimp (2 for 1 person), squid, white meat fish, and pork and green vege is pored. As usual red chili is served too. Really well prepared. I regretted not having ordered the bigger portion. All other dishes of this stall such as fried rice can be eaten at $3. Next time I should try another one (^^). This stall is one of the best(^^). The evaluation of Mr. Kashiyama who describes himself as "food lover ( no other pleasure is enjoyable any more because of AGE)" was very much reliable. |
